Taking Steps To Change Up My Style

Lately I've been feeling a bit of a change in myself.  Since I graduated I started working in much less active jobs, and I've really piled on the weight and become really self conscious with the shape my body has taken as a result.  I've felt like this for quite a few years now, and have spent those years hiding as much of my body away in the baggiest clothes I can find.

Although I still want to lose some weight and build my health up again, I've started to feel a little more comfortable in my own skin as of late.  I don't know what's brought it on, but I'm certainly not complaining.  Due to this change in me though, I've felt like I need to change my style up a bit.  This has resulted in me taking a few baby steps at the moment.  I've bought a few summery pieces for my wardrobe (After I realised my clothing range consisted of a variety of Harry Potter and Disney sweaters!), and I also decided to change something else up as well.  My glasses.

I've been wearing glasses for 20 years now, and have pretty much stuck with the same style time and time again.  Black, Ray Ban Wayfarer shaped glasses.  I've always been happy sticking to what I know suits me, but recently I've really felt like I'm due a change.

As if they were reading my mind, the lovely people at Glassesshop.com* got in contact with me to see if I wanted to review a pair of their prescription eye glasses.  I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try out a completely new style to what I'm used to, so I jumped on their website and started browsing the options available to me.  Eventually I settled on a rounder pair of glasses frames with a tortoise shell finish.  The style on the website is called Wood Round, but don't be fooled by the name, because as you can tell from the photos they're actually made from a really durable plastic.

Being such a creature of habit when it came to my glasses for so long, I really wasn't sure how I felt about the frames when I first put them on.  I was so used to my trusty black square frames that I just felt so alien in these frames when I tried them on initially.

Since I'm currently out of work, over the past couple of weeks I've been taking my friends dog out for an afternoon walk with Spencer.  It takes a weight off of their mind, and it means we get some regular, daily exercise.  I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take my glasses on their first outing.

I suppose the most important part is their functionality, which I can confirm is perfect for me.  As an online glasses shop, I had to send all of my prescription details over to ensure I got the correct frames inserted into my frames, and me being the worrier I am, I worried for the entire time that I may have got a digit or a letter wrong somewhere and would end up with the wrong lenses.  These frames come all the way from China, so it's a long way for them to travel if you get your prescription wrong!  Luckily this wasn't the case though, and my prescription is spot on for my eyes.

I am especially impressed with the frames themselves.  I'm personally not one for designer glasses.  I just don't see the point in forking out £200-£300 on a pair of frames.  I always opt for the budget brands, but sometimes the issue with this is you can tell that the quality of the frames aren't up to scratch.  However, the plastic used for these frames is incredibly durable, and they're perfect for somebody as clumsy as me.  The plastic is really bendy, so will be able to take some bashes without causing damage to the frames.

Lastly, once I got over the initial shock of being in a totally different pair of glasses to what I'm used to, I completely fell in love with these frames!  Recently I've found myself really avoiding my glasses and opting to wear contact lenses on a daily basis instead.  Now I have a totally new pair of frames I'm happy to sport a pair of glasses again on the days I can't be bothered to faff around trying to get a pair of contact lenses in.

If you're on the look out for some new frames, I couldn't recommend Glassesshop.com enough.  There are hundreds of designs to choose from, you can get prescription sunglasses as well as normal glasses, they're extremely affordable, and because the people at Glassesshop.com or so lovely, they've even provided me with a code for all of my lovely readers!  If you enter the code GSHOT50 at the checkout, you will receive 50% off of your entire order!

It's little changes like this that are really helping to instil a little confidence back into me again.  Although something like this may seem like a whole lot of nothing to others, sometimes it's steps like this we need to take to help bring us out of our shells again, when we've spent years trying to hide in the background, and that's totally ok!  Also, for those of you wondering that cutie in the photos with me is Zara, and she's pretty much my best friend!
